Il Montebello, A New Restaurant in Yarmouth Port

A true taste of authentic Italian cuisine on the Cape's north side
Our gracious, knowledgeable server (Ivana) made it feel like we'd been coming to Il Montebello for years (Pat Brooks photo)

We were looking forward to dining at this new restaurant Il Montebello (Route 6A, in Yarmouth Port at Kings Way Golf), the sister restaurant to the Four Seasons on Route 28 in Yarmouth,

On a quick read, the menu is like the ones at many other casual Italian spots. A deeper look, though, reveals more originality than usual. Scattered among the Italian favorites are gamberi fra diavlo e cappellini, ravioli pomodoro and orecchiette broccoli e salsiccia. ($16.95-$24.95)

The atmosphere is casual but carefully designed.  The dining room has a nice view of the golf fairway - and the patio outdoors is lovely on a warm evening, with heavy steel chairs set in a very spacious stone patio. You can sit at a white table clothed table in the main dining room, alfresco or eat at the bar. I love places that have multiple atmospheres to cater to guests with different tastes.

After enjoying a couple of cocktails and reading the extensive wine list it was time to start with appetizers.  Instead of ordering one or two starters we tried the antipasto caldo for two ($21.95). This allowed us to sample more.  It was a dramatic display served on a large plate with baked stuffed clams, stuffed mushrooms, eggplant rollatine and crispy baked shrimp. Very tasty~
My main-course portion of veal piccata ($24.95) left the oven at precisely the right time, with all the juicy mild tastes of the pan seared veal in a lemon butter and capers sauce.

My husband enjoyed the veal sorrentino ($25.95) The Veal was was tender, succulent and packed with flavor layered with prosciutto, eggplant and fresh mozzarella topped with mushrooms, shallots and Marsala were served with house made pasta and the veggies that came with them were well seasoned.

All was enough to fill us well and still fill a doggie bag to take home.

There was barely room for dessert but we selflessly plowed on. It was a good move. The mouth-watering pistachio cheesecake ($6.95)  served with pistachio gelato and swirls of chocolate and the profiteroles ($6.95) which were cream puffs surrounded by vanilla and chocolate cream. Both house made and an ideal end to a wonderful meal

The service is consistent with the theme. Our gracious and knowledgeable server Ivana, made for an enjoyable evening making you feel like you've been going there forever.

We won't hesitate to go back.  Benissimo!
