Wild Care's "Critters for Christmas" Day #11

The resident Mallard...

From Wild Care Cape Cod:

Day 11: "Critters for Christmas" - Ilean is our resident Mallard. She came to us in 2015. We are not entirely certain of her story, but we believe she was kept illegally as a pet. She came to us with a fractured leg that had healed improperly. Because of this injury, she is not releasable, and leans to one side (hence the name Ilean:). She fosters ducklings for us during the summer and has proven to be a good duck mom! She also provides company to dabbling-duck patients, most recently a male Mallard that came to us from the Cape Wildlife Center. He had not been eating and needed a companion. Well she definitely lifted his spirits, and he was soon released! Eileen is very spoiled by our volunteers. On any given day you can find her doing what she loves best - bathing in the Clinic, or basking in sun rays in her playpen.
