A little something for everyone...

IT'S SCHOOL VACATION! 

Build an Underwater ROV—Ages 9 and up
Tuesday, April 17 – Friday, April 20, 10:00 a.m. – noon
Launch Day: Saturday, April 21, 1:00 p.m.

We’ll be assembling an open-source Remotely Operated Vehicle that we plan to use to explore our local waters with Marine Scientist Owen Nichols. This program will be open to ages 9 and up who can participate in the construction over a four day period and then be part of launching the device nearby. Please sign up for one or all sessions.  Owen has been Director of Marine Fisheries Research at the Center for Coastal Studies since 2008, where he conducts research in collaboration with Cape Cod fishermen and shellfish farmers. His primary interests include distributional ecology, fisheries oceanography, marine mammal/fishery interactions, and ecosystem-based fishery management. Owen is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Massachusetts – Dartmouth (UMassD) School for Marine Science and Technology, a guest investigator at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and an adjunct professor at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He holds a B.A. in Marine Affairs from the University of Rhode Island and a M.Sc. in Marine Science and Technology from UMassD. Owen was the 2016 recipient of the John H. Annala Fishery Leadership Award presented by the Gulf of Maine Research Institute. He is a proud Cape native.

 

Family Fun Makerspace: Art Bots!
Wednesday, April 18, 3:00 p.m.

What if you could build a robot that creates its own art? In this project, you will create your own Art Bot, a robot with markers for "legs" that wobbles across a piece of paper, creating drawings as it moves.

Family Movie and Craft: COCO
Friday, April 20, 1:30 p.m.

Join us for the movie Coco. Popcorn will be served, and the movie will be  followed by a craft. Aspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer.  (1 hr. 45 min.; Rated PG for thematic elements.)

Rainforest Reptiles: Reptiles Rock!
Saturday, April 21, 10:30 a.m.

Rainforest Reptile Shows’ one-in-a-million traveling program engages kids of all ages at a hands-on level. You will have the chance to come into direct contact with live reptiles, artifacts, and their incredible stories. Experience the best in children’s education, where animals and reptiles are the stars of the show!

4-H Babysitting Course
Saturdays, April 28 & May 5, 10:00–2:00 p.m.
Graduation & Certificate presentation:
Saturday, May 5, 2:00 p.m.

Sessions include child safety, first aid and emergencies, stages of child development, feeding babies and children, discipline and entertainment,
and the business of babysitting. For ages 11 and up. Please sign-up by calling the library.

Every Monday, 9:00–11:00 a.m.

From October 16, 2017 to May 7, 2018 (except school holidays). For children aged birth to three years old, and their parent or caregiver. Toys, stories, songs, crafts, and snack provided. **NO playgroup on Monday, April 16**
 

Storytime 
Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Stories, songs, fingerplays, and crafts for ages birth to five years old. Drop-ins welcome.
