Mashpee High School 2018 graduate Shane LaCroix has received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.
This comes as no surprise to Mashpee Middle-High School's counseling director Lindsay Kett. She took a moment today to talk with us about this outstanding young man and his achievements.
"Shane LaCroix is a scholar-athlete excelling beyond the classroom and athletic fields. Enrolled in our School-To-Career program; Shane completed a 130 hour internship with the Woods Hole Group; an international environmental, scientific, and engineering consulting organization where Shane studied Coastal Engineering under Mr. Mitch Buck.
Mr. Michael Looney, CTE Director and STC Teacher, indicated that "over the course of his internship Shane produced data sets and charts to help the company in their projects" Mr. Dan Patenaude, School Counselor, expressed "The first words that come to mind when speaking about Shane are intelligent, focused, persevering, conscientious, considerate and honest. His level of commitment and determination is one of the best I have seen in my thirty-six plus years in education."
Over his high school journey, Shane has taken five Advanced Placement courses and is a proud member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society.
This year he earned the Achievement Award in English 12 Honors and the School-To-Career program; the Achievement Award is earned by the student with the highest GPA in the class. Shane also earned the AP Physics 1 Merit Award; an award earned for overall enthusiasm, work ethic and perserverance in the class.
As an athlete Shane played Lacrosse for three years and as a four year member of the varsity soccer team, Shane was selected as Captain; leading his team to advance the furthest of any soccer team in our school history. He was also named South Shore League All Star Fall 2017.
Finally, this year Shane was the recipient of the following Mashpee Scholarship Foundation Trust and local community scholarships:
Shane was honored on May 17th at our Annual Scholarship Night and recognized for being the recipient of the highly selective Air Force ROTC Commander Scholarship; however at this time his appointment and acceptance to the United States Air Force Academy supersedes this scholarship which will now be awarded to another ROTC candidate.
Shane LaCroix is an outstanding, inquisitive and respectful young adult who will have a very bright future."
