In this engaging docudrama set in 1971, the staff of the Washington Post faces a historic dilemma: whether or not to publish the Pentagon Papers, a top-secret document that reveals the U.S. Government knew for decades that the Vietnam War was unwinnable. This is a wonderful opportunity to have a personal lunch with some of the talented college athletes who are members of the Chatham Angler’s Baseball Team, and learn more about the Summer Cape Cod Baseball League experience. Chatham Angler’s team colors or apparel! On the Menu, is a Classic Summer BBQ with Burgers, Hot Dogs, Potato Salad, all the fix ins, and Frozen Summer Treats.  Reservations are required. DAYTRIP DESTINATION: Hydrangea Festival – Chatham Garden Tours & Luncheon

Join us for a walking tour of the Chatham Garden Club’s Hydrangea Festival Garden Tour. Visit 4 Gardens, with a break at midday for Lunch at the Chatham Filing Station. Decide to see all of the Gardens or, just some of them. The entrance fee to each Garden Tour is $5, and is paid at the Gardens. The bus will depart the COA at 9:30am.  Please note: The accessibility of these gardens is considered discretionary. That is, the yards include uneven land, soft ground, and/or sets of stairs. You must be able to ambulate/walk unassisted, and navigate this terrain, to be able attend this trip.  Appropriate footwear is encouraged.  Admission to the tours and lunch are at the cost of the participant.  Transportation is free.  Reservations are required.  Call the COA at 508-945-5190.

FREE PRESENTATION: Barnstable County Master Gardner

"Using Native and Pollinator-Friendly Plants in Your Garden"

 Barnstable County Master Gardener Guest Speaker, Marylou Roberts will present:

  • The reasons for using native plants in Cape landscapes and the                   importance of attracting pollinators to them.
  • Helping our landscapes to become more sustainable.
  • The best native plants for use on the Cape described and pictured.
  • Ways that pollinator-friendly plants can be integrated into the garden or       landscape.
  • Landscape themes and specific plants used in them or that can be   integrated into other plantings to give food and a home to pollinators.

Upcycle with “Do it Yourself” Tin Can Crafts

Let’s Upcycle your used tin cans into something creative, beautiful and useful!  Bring your creative flair, imagination, and a few clean, unlabeled tin cans, plus $3.00 towards the cost of decorator materials. Friday, July 20th

FREE Pleasant Bay Senior Sailing

Join us for an Afternoon of Senior Sailing on Pleasant Bay with Pleasant Bay Community Boating!   

Your Choice of One of Two Sailing Trip Dates: July 20th or August 3rd.

To Attend:

  • All participant spots are first come, first served.
  • Participants must be able to walk/ambulate, unassisted, through uneven terrain, steep surfaces, moving surfaces (docks and vessels), and board and disembark independently.
  • Call the COA at 508-945-5190, to register for (1 ) of the two sailing dates.
  • Participants must obtain Liability Release and Medical  Information Forms from the COA, which then must be returned to the office at the COA by: July 17th for the July 20th Sailing; July 31st for the August 3rd Sailing
  • Life jackets will be supplied.
  • Transportation will be provided from the COA, and the Bus will leave at 12:00 Noon to go to Pleasant Bay Community Boating. We will return back to the COA by 3:30 pm. 
  • In the event of poor sailing conditions, an attempt will be made to reschedule this event.

COA Gourmet Luncheon & Show – Featuring: “Yesterday’s Country Band” – Tickets $9

Back by popular request: Yesterday’s Country Band has evolved from a group of semi- retired musicians, who enjoyed jamming and playing music together, to an active, performing band.  The band has been performing on a regular basis since 2011 in the South Coast area of Massachusetts, including Cape Cod, and Rhode Island. A show not to be missed!  On the Luncheon Menu is:  BBQ Pulled Pork, Honey Cornbread and Slaw, and Basil, Corn and Tomato Pasta Salad, and Caramel Cookie Sundae for dessert. DAYTRIP DESTINATION: Museum of Natural History & Luncheon at the Scargo Café

Join us for a Tour of the exciting exhibits at the Museum of Natural History in Brewster, followed by luncheon at the Scargo Café in Dennis. We will be touring, learning and exploring at the Museum for approximately 2 hours. Following the Museum visit, we will enjoy lunch at the popular Scargo Café in Dennis.  The cost of admission to the museum for each participant has been reduced to $5.00, through the generosity of funds donated by Friends of the Chatham COA. Lunch is at the cost of the diner. Transportation is free. The Bus Departs COA at 9:30am. The bus will arrive back to the COA back to the COA about 2pm. Reservations are required. FREE PIZZA & Movie Day at the COA CINEMA – “The Greatest Showman”, Rated PG

This wondrous musical about the life of entrepreneur P.T. Barnum depicts how he found fame and fortune by starting a circus in 1870s America, and posits that he was the creator of modern show business.  Hugh Jackman leads an all-star cast in this bold and original musical filled with infectious show-stopping performances that will bring you to your feet time and time again.  Inspired by the story of P.T. Barnum (Jackman), the film follows the visionary who rose from nothing to create a mesmerizing spectacle. This inspirational film also stars Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya. Running time 105 minutes.  Reservations are required by the Friday before, on July 27th. Pizza will be served in the Movie Rooms, at 12 noon. Transportation is available.
