From the Wareham Police Department:

Amid multiple citizen complaints of drug dealing in the Shangri La area, detectives began an investigation into Tayon Woodley, 44, of New Bedford. On Tuesday, July 17, at about 11:45 a.m. members of the Wareham Police Detective Division, observed Mr. Woodley pull into the beach at Blissful Lane and complete a suspected drug transaction with a person in another vehicle. Detectives converged on the vehicles, and Mr. Woodley fled on foot down the stairs to the beach with detectives in pursuit. After a short foot chase Mr. Woodley was captured by the detectives.

Mr. Woodley and the other male in the transaction, Charles Babb, 51,of East Wareham, were both placed under arrest. In the vehicle belonging to Mr. Babb, detectives located a white substance believed to be crack cocaine. On Mr. Woodley’s person and vehicle detectives located $828.00 cash.

Wareham Detectives then secured a search warrant of Mr. Woodley’s residence at 19 Cotter Street, (floor 2) New Bedford. At about 5:00 p.m. Wareham Police detectives raided that location and confiscated 24.3 gra

ms of a white substance believed to cocaine, multiple pills marked Xanax, Oxycodone, and several other items consistent with the distribution of illegal narcotics, including baggies, a scale and nearly $4,500 in cash. Mr. Woodley’s vehicle was also seized as part of the arrest and subsequent raid. Wareham detectives were assisted at varying points in the investigation by detectives from the Middleborough, Mattapoisett, and Dartmouth Police Departments, as well as State Police from the Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section. The males are charged as follows:

Tayson Woodley:

Distribution of a class “B” Drug

Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws

Trafficking in Cocaine

Possession of a Class “E” Drug With Intent to Distribute

Possession of a Class “B” Drug With Intent to Distribute 2 Counts, subsequent offense

Charles Babb:

Possession of a Class “B” Drug

Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws

Both males were transported to Wareham Police Headquarters where they were processed. They are due in Wareham District Court on Wednesday.

Acting Police Chief John Walcek praised detectives for their hard work and said, “the Wareham Police Department takes citizen reports of drug dealing very seriously.” He further added, “drug dealers peddle poison, ruining the quality of life for our good citizens, and we are going to pursue them relentlessly.  A family going to enjoy the beach should not have watch an illegal drug transaction occurring, and we are not going to ease up one bit on these criminals.”
