ARTfilm: “MORE ART UPSTAIRS” & ARTtalk on Public Art Contests

Cape Cod Museum of Art

August 23, 2018 - Screening at 5:30 pm, followed by talk & reception

$15, $12 CCMoA Members

“MORE ART UPSTAIRS” is a fun, behind-the-scenes documentary about the world’s largest art contest that awards $500,000 in prize money.  ArtPrize invites the public to choose the winners and is turning Grand Rapids, Michigan into a popular art destination.   The film raises the questions: Can culture be democratized? Should artists need or want to connect with their audience? Who gets to decide what is and isn’t art?  Thanks to Cape Cod native director Jody Hassett Sanchez, CCMoA is showing the film before it is widely released in the fall.

The film will be followed by a talk with the director and arts professionals who have extensive experience creating contests for public art:

Clare O’Connor, former director of the Creative Placemaking project for the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce,

Carla Winterbottom, an artist at Opera House Studios and board member at Beverly Area Arts Alliance in the Greater Chicago Area.
