Body Recovered in Chatham Waters

UPDATE: Body Identified

UPDATE AT 10:30 P.M. The body found in the water near Chatham Harbor this morning has been identified as 44 year old Louis Guarracina of Newburyport. The victim's identity was confirmed by Cape & Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe's spokesperson Tara Miltimore.   

Statement from Chatham Police Department (verbatim):

On this date the Chatham Police Department responded to the Chatham Municipal Fish Pier following a report of an overturned boat.  The Chatham Harbormaster's Office and crews from US Coast Guard Station Chatham responded to the area after receiving a report from a boater that a capsized boat was found floating in the water in the area of the north inlet.  The body of an adult male was located in the water and transported back to the Fish Pier.  The boat was righted and towed to the Fish Pier by the Chatham Harbormaster.

Detectives from the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Cape & Islands District Attorney's Office responded and are investigating.  The Massachusetts Environmental Police are also assiting with the investigation of this accident.  Any questions regarding this investigation should be directed to the District Attorney's office.  Anyone with information can contact the District Attorney's Office at 508-362-8113.
