TRURO– Today, State Senator Julian Cyr (D-Truro) has received the endorsement of former President Barack Obama in his race for reelection to the State Senate representing the Cape & Islands.

“The Democratic Party has always made the biggest difference in the lives of the American people when we lead with conviction, principle, and bold, new ideas. Our incredible array of candidates up and down the ticket, all across the country, make up a movement of citizens who are younger, more diverse, more female than ever before,” said President Obama. “They’re Americans who aren’t just running against something, but for something. They’re running to expand opportunity and restore the honor and compassion that should be the essence of public service. I’m proud to endorse so many of them today, and I’m eager to continue making the case for why they deserve our votes this November.”

“As a former state senator himself, President Obama recognizes the importance of electing strong leaders at the state level,” said Senator Cyr. “It is an honor to receive the President’s endorsement and to know that he believes in our campaign and our fight to provide a quality education to every child and affordable healthcare to every resident. This distinction will only fuel our fire to win and give the people of the Cape & Islands the representation they deserve.”

“With over 6,000 races on the ballot this year, we are excited to join forces with President Obama to highlight the amazing men and women, like Senator Cyr, running in must-watch races for their state legislatures,” said Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) Executive Director Jessica Post. “We stand united and will do everything we can to elect candidates like Senator Cyr who will stand up for democratic values and work to move our nation forward.”

“It means so much to have the endorsement of President Obama,” added Cyr.  “The President’s path breaking run helped to inspire my own public service, and the opportunity to intern and later organize on his behalf were seminal in my experience.”

Cyr interned at the Obama White House in 2009 and organized on the President’s re-election campaign in 2012.

Cyr is the only incumbent legislator in Massachusetts to be endorsed by President Obama in 2018.
