This morning the Wareham Department of Natural Resources was notified of a sewer leak at the Smith Avenue pump station near Hamilton Beach, Wareham. An undetermined quantity of substance made its way to an adjacent storm drain which discharged into the bay. The Wareham Sewer Department controlled the leak and is in the process of repairing the issue. The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries was immediately notified of the incident and a precautionary closure for harvesting shellfish within the surrounding coastal waterways of Wareham and Marion have been put into effect until further notice.

We expect DMF water sampling to take place by early this upcoming week.
