It is during times like this when organized efforts are made to censor and silence a person simply for asking a fairly innocuous and straightforward question that we should reflect upon why our founding fathers were sure to include the Right to Freedom of Speech within the First Amendment to our Constitution.
About 1989 or so, in the case of Texas v. Johnson, Supreme Court Justice William Joseph Brennan Jr. is credited with stating:
“If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that the government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable.”
For me, I believe the First Amendment to the Constitution is there to help protect not only me, but all American citizens, from tyranny, tyranny like the the venomous political harassment and attempted intimidation that has apparently been directed at me for what truly is much ado about nothing.
