Harwich Fire Department Responds to Electrical Panel Fire

Residents and pets safely evacuated...

From Harwich Fire Department report on Friday evening call:

At approximately 7:30pm the Harwich Fire Department responded to 84 Pleasant Lake Avenue in Harwich Center, for a report of a fire in the electrical panel.

On arrival Captain Mayo of Engine 64 confirmed a basement fire a requested a working fire assignment. 1 line was quickly stretched to the front and Engine 64 advanced into the basement to begin extinguishment.

As additional companies arrived, the first and second floor apartments were searched. Initially all occupants had been reported out, but the procedure is to search and confirm this report. A cat and guinea pig were also recovered and returned to the occupants. Another cat was found by the owner after the fire was out.

The fire was quickly knocked down, and the building was ventilated.

The occupants were moved to temporary housing by the landlord as the power had to be secured to the building.
