CHATHAM, MA – Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty has announced further expansion in Cape Cod with the acquisition of Chatham Real Estate, a hyperlocal real estate firm based in the seaside town of Chatham, Massachusetts. The acquisition extends Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty’s reach south into Barnstable County and adds one new office to the Boston-headquartered brokerage. The company currently serves clients across Chatham, Orleans, Brewster, Harwich Port, Dennis, Boston, Greater Boston, and the North Shore and South Shore.

“We are thrilled to add the group of professionals at Chatham Real Estate to our organization as part of our long-term strategy of serving the Cape Cod-area markets,” said Paul McGann, President and Co-Owner of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty. “Joining forces with Chatham Real Estate satisfies a substantial market need for additional locations to effectively serve our client base. Our vision is to enable our agents to provide improved progression of service as our clients move from Greater Boston to Cape Cod and beyond.”

Chatham Real Estate has served the residential real estate market in Cape Cod since 1990, first established by Rick and Kari Smith as Chatham Homes & Land Company. With the 2000 purchase of a second real estate company, the firm became Chatham Real Estate, specializing in all areas of the market including luxury waterfront homes, beach cottages, and vacation rentals. A lifelong Chatham resident, Rick Smith offers expert local knowledge and has fostered strong relationships within the communities he serves. Chatham Real Estate is located approximately 88 miles from Boston, in the heart of bustling Downtown Chatham, a hub of unique shops, galleries, restaurants, and inns.

“When Paul and I first met Rick Smith, our synergy was undeniable,” commented Larry Rideout, Chairman and Co-Owner of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty. “Rick cares deeply for his agents, who he considers as family, and his focus on agent support reflects our shared business and personal values. We are proud to welcome this team to Gibson Sotheby's International Realty, and we have the utmost confidence in the continued vitality of Cape Cod real estate.”

“For thirty years, we have united buyers and sellers of beautiful Cape Cod properties and developed continuous ongoing relationships with our clients,” said Rick Smith, Owner and Founder of Chatham Real Estate. “Joining Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty provides us with superior marketing services and worldwide exposure that will help us serve Cape Cod more effectively than ever. Larry Rideout and Paul McGann offer unrivaled global connections and business expertise, while I bring intimate knowledge of and passion for the Cape Cod lifestyle—a winning combination for us all.”

Since 1962, Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty’s unique approach of combining local leadership with a global brand has been highly effective throughout Massachusetts. Under Co-Owners Larry Rideout and Paul McGann’s leadership for over a decade, the firm has grown exponentially and has cultivated a people-centric and technology-driven culture. In 2019, REAL Trends, the trusted source for news and research for the real estate brokerage industry, recognized Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty as the #1 Massachusetts-based firm by sales volume and average sales price, and the #11 Sotheby’s International Realty affiliate in the country by sales volume. Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty is currently the largest independently-owned real estate company in Boston.
