Cape Cod Cod with Chef Joe Cizynski
Monday, May 20, from 6-8pm. Codfish were an important food item for coastal Native North American tribes. When codfish appear in Native American legends, their role is usually simply as something that other characters are eating or fishing for. Some Nuu-chah-nulth tribes tell the story that a lunar eclipse is the result of a codfish trying to swallow the moon. Some Native Alaskan fishermen make a special offering of the first cod they catch each season, similar to how it is done for salmon and halibut. Codfish is used as a clan crest in some Northeast Coast tribes and can sometimes be found carved on totem poles. We will have brandade du morue au gratin, yeast fried cod with saffron aioli, braised cod in an octopus red wine sauce and finish with fresh cheeses. We will sip on Rose, Lager, Syrah and Grenache. $65 per person.  To register, visit www.cultural-center.org or call 508-394-7100. Cultural Center of Cape Cod, 307 Old Main St., South Yarmouth.

Goreyosity Shop: An Exhibit and Auction of New Artwork Created from the Collections of Edward Gorey, is an inspired repurposing of materials from the vast collections (or, The Wondrous Hoardings) of author/artist Edward Gorey into new works of art and fine craft by local artists. A benefit for the Edward Gorey House in Yarmouth Port, Goreyosity Shop is the result of 26 Cape and off-Cape collage and assemblage artists, fabric artists, illustrators, sculptors, furniture makers, miniaturists, jewelry makers and painters being allowed to rummage through Edward Gorey’s barn. Clothing, fabrics, small metal objects, large metal objects, very large metal objects, architectural remnants, glass, beads, kitchenware, ceramics, tiles, cutlery, partially intact books and magazines, and plush toys have now all returned as new works of art—either decorative, contemplative, outrageous, wearable, useful, or otherwise. The Box Car Lilies and Jim Henry, in Concert!

Saturday, June 8, from 8-10pm. Combining spine-tingling three-part harmony and exceptional songwriting, The Boxcar Lilies have made a name for themselves with their signature mix of folk, country, blues, and bluegrass-tinged Americana music. Though each member of the Massachusetts-based trio has a distinct singing talent, Jenny Goodspeed (electric bass, guitar), Stephanie Marshall (washboard, guitar), and Jim Henry (guitar) deftly weave their voices into a delicious whole – a sound that is sometimes delicate, sometimes gritty, but always innovative and soul-stirring. Their trademark harmonies may have put the band on the Americana music map, but their genuine and charming stage presence and off-the-cuff banter helped keep them there. They’ve brought their engaging live show to venues across the Northeast and beyond, including The Iron Horse Music Hall, Caffé Lena, Club Passim, and Philadelphia's Tin Angel. The trio’s sparkling and lush brand of Americana has led to numerous opportunities including being selected for an official showcase at the International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis and performing at the 2014 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival as the #1 Most Wanted Emerging Artist. A recent addition to the group, award-winning song-writer and multi-instrumentalist Jim Henry has toured the world with Mary Chapin Carpenter, Paula Cole, Tracy Grammer and many other A-list artists.  He is the go-to session player in New England, having played on hundreds of records. A rich baritone voice delivers his heartfelt songs about home and family coupled with his fiery guitar playing make a musical force of unrivaled stature. As Susan Werner said, "Jim Henry sings like the guy you want to marry and plays guitar like the guy you wanna date." Don’t miss this amazing group. Complimentary refreshments. $25, $20 for members. For tickets, visit www.cultural-center.org or call 508-394-7100. Cultural Center of Cape Cod, 307 Old Main St., South Yarmouth.
