Today is Independence Day

Most stores open, government offices closed
Originally entitled Yankee Doodle, this is one of several versions of a scene painted by A. M. Willard that came to be known as The Spirit of '76. Often imitated or parodied, it is a familiar symbol of American patriotism.

Today we celebrate our independence!

Federal, state and town offices will be closed on July 4th. Post offices are also closed.  Stores are generally open.

Independence Day marks the public release of our Declaration of Independence from the United Kingdom.

You can read the full text of the Declaration here.
