DENNIS, MA – Regional real estate leader Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty will celebrate its newest office location at 563 Route 6A in Dennis, Massachusetts. On Thursday, July 25th. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., local residents and business owners are invited to come by to celebrate this historic space, said to be the first Sears, Roebuck and Company kit home sold on Cape Cod. Gourmet refreshments will be provided by local caterer, Treats Catering. A ribbon cutting will take place at 5 p.m.
From the early 1900s until 1942, Sears, Roebuck and Company, more commonly known as Sears, sold thousands of catalog kit homes, sold primarily through mail order. The Castleton, one of the hundreds of housing styles offered in the 1921 Sears Modern Homes Mail Order Catalog, cost $1,989 and came with nine-foot ceilings, millwork, and yellow pine trim and flooring. The property was renovated in Dennis in 2018, providing a blank canvas for Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty to customize as needed. Original finishes, including glass door knobs and a
stained-glass window, are still intact.
