Congressman Keating Issues Statement on Cape Cod Tornado

"Resilient Cape Codders will pull together..."
Congressman Bill Keating

Washington, DC – Below is a statement from Congressman Bill Keating in response to yesterday’s severe weather.

“Yesterday’s tornado has created a serious emergency for many of us here on Cape Cod. With tens of thousands still without power and heavy debris in many areas, we have a long way to go to recover from this event.

“In the last 24 hours, the immense effort being expended by our utilities and local governments on the Cape has been extraordinary. We are thankful not only for their work, but also that so far we have not seen any serious injuries or fatalities. I have spoken with local leaders this morning about the storm damage in the community, and my staff is working with first responders in the hardest hit areas.

“The incredible damage that this storm has caused to the lower Cape in such a short period of time is unprecedented. I remain certain that resilient Cape Codders will pull together and do their best to ensure that the Cape remains open for business during our busy summer season. That said, it is also incumbent upon our government to offer help in extraordinary times of need. Therefore, I am calling on Governor Baker to issue a disaster declaration and begin the process of providing much-needed relief to the people of Cape Cod.

“I will continue to work with our state, local, and federal officials to help coordinate a response to this disaster,  and I am thankful for the incredible leadership of our first responder community during this unique and devastating weather event. Please contact our office in Hyannis if we can be of help in any way.”
