The statement below was issued today by Attorney Mitchell Garabedian. Mr. Garabedian is best known for his representation of victims in the Archdiocese of Boston child molestation scandal.
"I represent a female clergy sexual abuse victim who received a low six figure award from ISCP (compensation program) on July 10, 2019. The sexually abusive priest, Fr. Martin J. Fleming, was ordained in 1898. The courageous victim, now 85 years old, was sexually abused in 1941 when she was 6 years old.
Given the complicity of supervisors with regard to the allowance clergy sexual abuse, the desire of pedophile priests to sexually abuse as many children as they can and the unquestioned respect society had for Catholic priests in the 1800s it is likely that Fr. Martin J. Fleming sexually abused innocent children as a Catholic priest beginning in the late 1800s when he was ordained.
I represent a total of eleven victims of clergy sexual abuse who were sexually abused by priests affiliated with the Diocese of Scranton. The relevant timespan of clergy sexual abuse of is from 1941 up to and including 1990.
Below, for reference, is a document from the PA grand jury report. My client is the female victim referred to in the report."
