Hyannis, MA - On Sunday, October 20th the Cape's first Target store will open at the Cape Cod Mall.  Tuesday evening, the store held a ribbon cutting and preview for friends, family, community leaders and the media. Cape Cod Today was pleased to send a reporter to check out the new store. (See photo gallery below)

Target employs approximately 150 people at the Hyannis store.  It occupies 80,000 square feet of the former Sears store.  The Hyannis "small format" Target store is one of 105 such stores open, with the chain planning to open 30 more per year.  Target's overall store count is 1,862 as of October 15, 2019.

Tuesday night the store was fully stocked and chock full of people.  Employees both on an off-duty filled the aisles as Store Director Daron Holloway cut the ribbon and welcomed the Cape Cod community to their new Target store.

Mr. Holloway thanked his employees for three weeks of very hard work in getting the store stocked and ready to open.

The small-format Target includes a full-service grocery section, including meats, produce, frozen foods, dairy, alcohol and more.  Those who liked the former CVS store at the mall will be pleased to find a full-service CVS pharmacy inside Target.

Target also features a Starbucks with a bright, glassy seating area.

As we were looking over the many self-service cash registers, employees cheered as the store's very first paying customer completed his purchase at a self-service station.

Target formally opens its doors Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
