Cape Cod is picking up the pieces after Hurricane Irene came by and said how-do-you-do.

Onset, Bourne, Marion, Mattapoisett, Rochester, Marion, Mashpee, Cotuit, Duxbury, Falmouth and Buzzards Bay have widespread power outages. It could be days or even a week before power is restored to all. See all the local Cape updates here.
Boats are beached, trees are down, and basements are flooded all over our coverage area. I can only speak for Buzzards Bay, but it's ugly out there.
Bournedale Road has about a dozen trees down, and the road is closed. There were 35- count 'em, because I did- cars lined up at the Buzzards Bay Dunkin' Donuts, who had apparently hooked up a generator. There were no other businesses open, other than Xtra Mart, who had also hooked up a generator.
Abdullah had to drive to the edge of West Wareham to find someone who'd make him a sandwich without having him wait in a 50 car line.
Listening to the radio, I'm told that Marstons Mills, Yarmouth, Chatham and pretty much whatever towns I didn't list also lost power.
Things that go BOOM in the night
Worst story? A Falmouth family qualified en masse for a Darwin Award. They lost power, put a propane stove on top of their regular stove to cook, then evacuated when the water got too close. You probably already know that they had left the real stove on after the power came out, and that they didn't move the propane stove before fleeing.
Power comes on, stove comes on, propane tank heats up.... BOOM! Time to relocate the Stupid family.
Best story? A surfer off Nantasket Beach refused police orders to leave the water. So, when he came ashore with a wave, they bounded into the surf and arrested him for Disorderly Conduct. It was the first off-the-surfboard arrest I've been aware of since Keannu cuffed Swayze at the end of Point Break. I should add the Keannu let Swayze go in the movie, although Swayze perished in the surf afterwards.
We'll be back later in the day with a more pictorial update. We're having some computer issues.
