(Hyannis, MA - April 7, 2011) Hundreds of skaters (ages 5-adult) and their coaches, families and friends converged on the grounds at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center today to compete for the top honor in their age division at the International Theatre On Ice 2nd Nations Cup. The week-long event was organized by the Yarmouth Ice Club with help from the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce which orchestrated hospitality and transportation plans for 23 teams that came from as far away as Australia, Ukraine, Spain, France and Russia as well as nine teams from the United States with representation from Texas, Florida and Massachusetts.
During the Choreographic Exercise on the first day of competition, the teams were judged on how well they could portray the chosen themes of "Bold", "Celebration" and "Cascade" while dressed only in black. In the Adult Division, first place went to Imagica of Boston representing the Skating Club of Boston; while the Russian "Ice Crystal" team took second and the Space Coast Hurricanes from Florida were third with Pizazz from Hingham, MA coming in fourth.
The larger field of twelve Junior Division teams represented a world-class competition with the first place team from Belfort France edging out the Space Coast Hurricanes from Florida who came in second and Spain was third.
In the Senior Division, seven teams competed with competitors from France taking first and second place and the Los Angeles Ice Theater from Burbank, California in third.
Tomorrow the teams will show their very best in creative display as they tell their story through carefully choreographed techniques complimented by music, props, costumes and teamwork. Here is a list of the teams in the order that they will skate starting at 8:50AM. The competition is expected to run throughout the day with On-Ice Awards and Closing Ceremonies taking place at 3:30PM.
