B.D.W. and Happy 2017 & Blackbeard Cocktail

       I hope that as you read this, we find you in good health and looking forward to a happy and prosperous new year. Well the past year has now come and gone and as the page turns on a new year, as many things are about to change there are still some things that will stay the same. I can't do anything about the national political scene, I can't do anything about global warming or cooling. I have no desire to be an activist in this blog and although I am a man of Faith but I am not here to persuade your conviction on way or another (however if you read this blog I am not afraid to state were I choice to stand.) However, I will talk about the Cape Cod I fell in love with, some 50 years ago, I give what travel tips I can that will hopefully save you dollars, I will give a few stories of my past, although I think I have over the past more than 12 years of doing this exhausted most of them. I will continue to give my business reports, and we will still hear from the Lighthouse report and keeper. The first week of each month I will continue to give whatever report I can from our local Breweries, Distilleries and Wineries and has I have for the past 10 years will give you a recipe every week.  

      We are back to the first week of the month and first week of the year and tis time for our Breweries, Distilleries and Wineries report. Things are a little slow at most of my reporting stations, but here is what I have. After that I post what regulars I have with their web pages and facebook pages for your perusal. But for now this is what I can report:

      2017 is shaping up to be a big year for Cape Cod Beer! With the purchase of new fermenters Cape Cod Beer will be expanding their beer volume capacity yet again. The increase in capacity comes just in time as Cape Cod Beer begins distributing further into the South Shore in the towns of Kingston, Duxbury, Pembroke & Marshfield. A remodeled tap room in the brewery is also on the horizon for Cape Cod Beer.

      From Truro Vineyards & South Hollow Spirits in Truro:
      As we all know this is the down season for many of our shops, and the wineries are no different. The vines are just hanging out like the rest of us waiting for the warmer season to get here. But please don't forget that Truro Vineyards has an online store and has a wine club you should check out. You can also check out if the Vineyards would be a great place to host your next event. The sooner you get them contacted the sooner you can book and ensure the dates you want. If you happen to be in the Boston Public Market vicinity they do tasting twice a week year round.       New this week is BOM BOM Coco Mochanut: Cape Cod / CT
      This is a new product on the market and in our area. This is a husband and wife team that have come up with a really fun new liqueur that is a little bit like some other yet just not quite the same. Check our their website for more information and where to find. I ran into them Christmas Eve doing a tasting and fell in love with it.       Welcome my friends to a beacon that keeps on shinning, I hope that the passing from last year to this year was a painless transition. The good news is no news from the keepers log books, it was a quiet evening and the whales could be heard spouting off and a couple frighters and tankers passed by a few miles out, but that was the excitement of our evening.A toast of the bubbly as the midnight hour stuck a kiss under a moon lite and star filled sky. Past that we will start to take down all the all the decorations this coming weekend and then batten down the hatches for the rest of the winter. With only 9 hrs and 14 minutes of daylight we will need to make the most of what we have with any outdoor activity but we will start gaining time and that is good. Well I hope you have a happy and safe new years, and we pray you do not need our services however if you do know for sure we will be here with a beacon of hope and horn of warning and a life ring if needed. So until we meet again,, and we hope to see you soon right here on ole Cape Cod.   
      Well this year we are going taking on the theme of "It's a Pirates Life" when it comes to cocktails and the drinks world. I think I have covered the gambit and there will be something for anyone and everyone. As always I could add something to the list but for the most part I like what we have and a pirates life is for me this year. As always please remember many cocktail recipes or variations of will have the same name and a few will just be totally different. You can also get the same recipe but note that the recipe also carries the brand of liqueur used in it. So the recipe name is slightly different but when you look at the ingredients they are the same, it is just that one says to us any Rum, and the other says Brand Name Rum. So you take your choice. Whenever possible I stay with generic spirits as not to infringe on copyright issues. Well hope you enjoy this one and here we go with a new year.       This week's recipe: A Blackbeard Cocktail
 
  •       1      oz      Rum
  •       1      oz      Beer (us a stout or lager)
  •       Fill with      Cola 

      (some recipes call for Root Beer instead of real Beer)
      Put ice in a highball glass and pour Rum and Beer over top. Then top off with your favorite Cola.
