. What can I say about Fritz, he is a wicked cool artist, glass blower, and has a creative edge to him that is beyond when it comes to anything may with glass. You will find him making, platters, vases, bowls, ornaments, and one of his specialties marbles and more. You can go to either his shop and buy things or go to the website and find were dealers that carry his works. Also you will find works by his wife June Raymond, as she is as She has shown her work across the country in group as well as solo shows. June's work is in many collections including the San Francisco Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, and the University Art Museum at Tempe. The two of them emulate what the Cape has become known for as artist and have taken it to new levels. Hello my friends, Oh, this last week has been one of the most spectacular weeks of fall weather I have seen in a long time. Now if you don't like warm days and cool nights, well this would not be your week. But for us long timers out here, having this is like a glass full of sunshine. Now the only trade off is that the evenings I have been doing some overtime with the beacon and fog horn. But, we have had some wicked good fun with the haunted forest and maze we have up for the kids and younger folk. Kind of fun seeing them jump when we start talking about all the ghosts of the ship recked souls that have unfinished business to deal with. We try to pass on those stories right before dusk sets in. Then the fun starts, he-he-he. Anyway, I have to say with these warmer temperatures have brought out a few more surfers and kite boarders then usual. Seeing them fly up and down the coast line at ridiculous speeds and doing them tricks makes my stomach do flip flops and my head hurt. But I will say it does look like they are having fun. I'm just hoping they not one of the next lost souls roaming the wooded areas up here, now that would spook me. And let me tell you have had plenty of spookings over the years, especially in the town, and up in the lamp room. Anyway I will save the stories for those who come and can site through them. Wouldn't want to give all my secrets away now would I. Well, I need to fancy this place up before the next group comes in. Honestly we have had the kids coming in during the day on the field trips, we have have the tour buses and in the evening the kids from the social clubs and kids organizations and other that have all wanted to come and spend some time. It has almost been overwhelming but I will say I am enjoying it. Keeps me busy and keeps me young, or that's what I tell myself. Well I think I best be moving along, and send this reporter on back to office so he can get some work done, either that or I am going to put him to work here, LOL. Oh how I love these bundt/pound cakes, and the easier the better, this one even the kids might make it for you. It was my mother who invited me into her kitchen and allowed me to help. Whether it was to help prepare the green beans for canning, or allowing me to help make cookies to helping with making dinner outright. Over the years I have learned by the time we moved Marion, Ohio my mother because the June Cleaver of the mid-west for reasons I won't go into, but got everything that my sisters should have gotten plus more. I also had the benefit of a father who was not afraid of the kitchen and loved to and at age 90 still enjoys cooking, (makes the best hamburgers still to this day). But both taught me to keep it simple, keep it fun, and don't be afraid to try something new. Well this meets just about all the requirements. So if nothing else give this a try and have some fun with and I am betting it becomes a favorite. Now before I start eating the keyboard, let's get this show on the road:
This week's recipe: Cold Oven Poundcake
- 3 sticks butter
- 2 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 6 eggs
- 3 3/4 cups sifted flour
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla (the real stuff please)
Cream butter and sugar; add eggs one at a time; add sifted dry ingredients, alternating with milk and flavoring. Beat 1 minute and pour into well-greased tube pan. Put cake into cold oven, then turn oven on to 325 degrees (in other words do NOT pre-heat oven) and bake for 1 1/2 hours or until knife (or tooth pic) inserted is clean then pulled out. Remove from oven and let stand for 10 minutes to cool then remove to rack to finish cooling. When cool, put in air tight container. Let sit for at least 6 hrs, better if can allow to sit overnight. It is good on the first day, but hang on to day two, it only gets better. Serve with whipped cream, ice cream, or a nice drizzle. Then again, it might not last that long to add anything to it.
