Late Season High School Games In Mid October

Atlantic Coast
7:00 P.M.
Nauset at Plymouth North (-1)

Nauset took a hard L to Plymouth South. Now, they get North. Will they try to get Plymouth back for last week? Do they lose again because they have Plymouthphobia? Plymouth envy? Those Pilgrims landed in Nauset territory first, after all. Where are the props? How does this injustice play out in football? I'm thinking Nauset handles business.

Nauset, 21-20

7:00 P.M.
Falmouth at Dennis-Yarmouth (-14)

Falmouth is the Cape's punching bag. They're last 4 games are 0-4, 142-27. D-Y has already knocked off giant-killer Barnstable, and is a huge favorite to stomp all over Falmouth.

D-Y, 41-17

7:00 P.M.
Marshfield at Sandwich (+5)

Marsh Vegas is rounding into shape, and gave Top 12 Barnstable all that they could handle last week. Sammich isn't on Barnstable's level, and Vegas should handle them.

Marshfield, 20-7

Big Three
7:00 P.M.
Durfee at Brockton (-10)

Club Homeboy is reeling, going 0-2 and 0-20 in their last two games. However, Durfee isn't Xaverian or BC High.

Brockton, 24-9

Old Colony
7:00 P.M.
NO. 8 Barnstable at NO. 5 Bridgewater-Raynham (-1)

Game of the week, IMHO. B-R has pinned powerhouses like Duxbury and St. John's Prep. Barney has taken the top team in the state and made them no longer be the top team in the state. B-R has the point because they're higher-ranked and hosting, but this column isn't buying that.

Barnstable, 14-13

Patriot
7:30 P.M.
Hingham at Quincy (PE)

I like when urban schools play county schools. I wish the Cape got Boston schools now and then. I generally bet Country, but I sort of AM country.

Hingham, 31-28

7:00 P.M.
Middleboro at Scituate (-7)

Scituate has a giant team, with the 235 pound kid on their roster being the 6th biggest kid on the team. Middleboro has been playing well, but size does matter.

Scituate, 27-14

4:00 P.M.
Pembroke at North Quincy (-1)

Pembroke is winless, and NQ is the lesser of two Quincys. Pemby has to beat someone.

Pembroke, 15-14

7:00 P.M.
Whitman-Hanson at Silver Lake (-4)

Whitman-Hanson is winless, and Silver Lake is the best chance they have to get a Dub this season. Every bit of logic in my body is saying "Silver Lake," but I'm going for the upset.

W-H, 10-9

Non-League

7:00 P.M.
Dartmouth at New Bedford (-3)

Dartmouth is 3-2, but those 2 came against some tough teams. New Beffuh (pop. 95000 and change) has one win, against Franklin (30K, with a voke tech in town). Dartmouth has a high school, a voke tech, and a Catholic school in town. This would make one lean towards Betty, but Betty uses those schools as well. Once you juggle the numbers, you get Dartmouth by 1.

Dart, 24-23

South Coast
7:00 P.M.
Old Rochester at Wareham (+3)

It's a tough year in the Where? I'd bet on them losing to Old Rochester, New Rochester, Current Rochester and Future Rochester.

OR, 20-10

4:00 P.M.
Bourne at Apponequet (-9)

To my knowledge, no one has ever even considered making a film about someone who went to a Maritime Academy in Lakeville, got kidnapped by Somalians, was freed after Navy SEALs scored a series of head shots... played by Tom Hanks. That matters little in football, however.

Appy, 27-10

7:00 P.M.
Case at Fairhaven (-3)

Fairhaven seems to be pulling it together, and Case... well, you know, I actually looked up Case last week, and have already forgot where it is. Part of me is saying "Swansea."

Fairhaven, 24-13

South Shore
7:00 P.M.
Monomoy at Mashpee (-1)

The Mash is 3-1, with their sole loss being a shocker at Falmouth. Monomoy started well, but has taken three curbstompings in a row to the tune of 138-33.

Mashpee, 30-17

7:00 P.M.
Norwell  at East Bridgewater (-4)

I don't like Norwell winning this game, but I'll make them lose under the spread.

EB, 20-17

7:00 P.M.
Cohasset at Carver (+14)

Cohasset is averaging 40 ppg. Carver, as well as they have been playing lately, isn't.

Cohasset, 35-17

SATURDAY

Eastern Athletic
1:00 P.M.
Martha's Vineyard at Somerset Berkley (-8)

Marty has a kid- the splendidly named Aaron Figueroa- who is 5'8", 270... which is about what a juvenile brown bear posts, stat-wise.

S-B, 20-7

Mayflower
2:00 P.M.
Nantucket at Old Colony (PE)

Nantucket has yet to win a non-Cape/Islands game, even ones they've hosted. That changes this week.

Nantucket, 27-24

1:00 P.M.
Upper Cape at Holbrook/Avon (+3)

Methinks that it's going to be a John Dumont party up among the Avon ladies.

UCT, 28-10

Tonight's NFL Game

10/17 8:25 ET Seattle -5.5 At Arizona 40.5

I don't see "playing in Arizona" as something that makes a 5.5 point spread out of a game I see Seattle winning by 14, minimum.

Seattle, 27-13

We plan on covering the Red Sox soon, it's just a matter of our chief sports columnist having this mental issue where the Red Sox turn her ultraviolent now and then. Maybe if they make the World Series...
