Belmeda “Bella” Alwardt

Belmeda “Bella” Alwardt, 93, of East Falmouth passed away at the JML Care Center in Falmouth on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. She was born in Falmouth to John and Georgianna (Raposa) Carreiro. In her youth, Bella worked at Casino by the Sea and at Max Cohen clothing store. She went on to work for First National Food Store as a meat wrapper for over 30 years. She was an avid bowler and won many tournaments. She also enjoyed dancing and was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, but most of all she cherished her family. Bella is survived by her son, Rynie Alwardt & his wife Mary Ellen of E. Falmouth; 2 granddaughters, Allyson M. “Ally” Wilson & husband Robert J. and Michelle “Shelly” Gutierrez & husband Jay, all of E. Falmouth; 5 great grandchildren: Emily-Anne Gutierrez, Brendon M. Wilson, Jessica M. Wilson & fiancé Jason Clark, Ricardo Gutierrez, and Ashley Gutierrez; 1 great great-grandson, Jordan J. Gutierrez; her sister Mary Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews. She was married to the late Robert B. Alwardt and was predeceased by her sister, Georgianna DeMello and her brothers, John, Manuel, James, Amos and Edward Carreiro. Visiting hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, Feb 5 at Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Falmouth. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, Feb 6 at St. Anthony’s Church, 167 East Falmouth Highway (Route 28), East Falmouth.
