David Welleman Fraser passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at Liberty Commons in Chatham at the age of 87 on Thursday September 10, 2015.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Virginia (Knight) Fraser of Harwich; his three sons: Peter W Fraser of Hingham, Steven C Fraser and his wife Donna of Scituate and Mark C Fraser and his wife Helen of West Palm Beach, Florida. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce Fraser of Brewster, and was preceded in death by his brother Waldo Fraser, formerly of Centerville.
He was born in East Braintree, MA on July 31, 1928. Dave was a graduate of Derby Academy, Hingham. He was a proud WWII veteran having served in the U.S Army where he was stationed in Alaska. After his tour of duty, he graduated from the University of New Hampshire and returned to Hingham, where he met and married his wife. An avid boater, Dave was very active in the Hingham Yacht Club.
Dave began his career with the New England Fire Insurance Rating Association in Boston. Later he worked for the Continental and Reliance Insurance Companies. Following that, he entered the commercial real estate business in the Hingham area, specializing in the sale and leasing of commercial properties. He retired in 1993 where he retired to Harwich. Dave was a member of the Pilgrim Church in Harwich Port and the Harwich Men’s Club.
Loved by all that knew him, Dave was a proud, hardworking, and dedicated family man. He enjoyed his life in Harwich and was a huge fan of Big Band music, sailing and home improvement projects.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in David Fraser’s name to the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Harwich or Broad Reach Hospice and Palliative Care of Chatham.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life for David, Sunday September 13, 2015 at 3 o’clock at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 533 Route 28, in Harwich Port.
