WAREHAM – Ethelyn A. (Zion) DeGrenier, 94, of Wareham, died August 20, 2015 at home while surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of the late John E. DeGrenier, Sr. who died in 1971.
She was born in Onset and lived in Wareham all of her life.
Mrs. DeGrenier graduated from Wareham High School, New Bedford Beauty Academy and Kinyon-Campbell Business School in New Bedford.
Mrs. DeGrenier worked as an Aesthetician at Ara’s Salon from 1973 until 2001. She also owned and operated Willows Apartments since 1956.
She gave the family the background and foundation for The Willows Cranberry Company. Her family has been working in the cranberry business since the early 1900’s.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church and its Altar Guild and St. Patrick’s Circle. In her younger years she enjoyed horseback riding, swimming in Onset Bay and dancing. Most of all she loved her family and was always there for nieces, nephews and friends for anything that they may have needed.
Survivors include her daughter, Roseann DeGrenier of Wareham; 2 granddaughters, Rachel A. DeGrenier and Joanne M. DeGrenier both of Wareham; a great grandson, Nicholas J. Stafford of Wareham; a sister, Ruby Zine of Wareham. Her son, John E. DeGrenier, Jr. died in 2001 and her great grandson, Joseph X. Vasconcelos died in 2009. She was the sister of the late Alice Lake, Delia Joseph, Minnie Zeady, Arthur Zion, Rose Butler, Mabel Lutoff, Joseph Zion, Marie Gabriel, John Zion and Madelyn Stephens.
Her funeral will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2015 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
