John R. Thompson, 90, of Woods Hole, MA, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the Royal Nursing Center of Falmouth, due to a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Jean A. Thompson (Adams), for 67 years.
He was born in Middleborough, MA where he went on to graduate from Burdett College, in Boston, MA. John was active in the Navy during World War II, receiving a number of rewards, including the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon, the American Area Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Area Ribbon, and a World War II Victory Medal. He worked as an auditor for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York, NY. John enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He deeply admired the village of Woods Hole, MA, where he grew up.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by his daughter, Nancy Mallon of Massapequa Park, NY, his son, Sandy Thompson of Norwalk, CT, as well as 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and 3 nieces and nephews.
