FALMOUTH – Maureen S. (Scanlon) Matoes, 80, of Falmouth, formerly of Wareham, died Aug. 7, 2015 while surrounded by her loving family in Falmouth Hospital, Falmouth. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Nora (Flaherty) Scanlon.
She was born in Galway, Ireland and lived in Wareham and Falmouth for many years.
Mrs. Matoes loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren and attending school events and activities with them. She was proud of her Irish heritage.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Sheila A. Sewell and her husband Alan of Nashua, NH and Gail T. Strom and her husband Thomas of Marion; 7 brothers, Seamus, Sean, Christy, Thomas, Gerard, Martin and Michael Scanlon and 2 sisters, Bridget McAnulty and Nancy Orr all of Ireland; 4 grandchildren, Christian Sewell, Hannah Strom, Erin Sewell and David Strom; many nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the late Patrick Scanlon.
Her funeral will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 82 High St., Wareham. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Wareham.
Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
