Robert W. Routhier Sr. of Yarmouthport, MA formally of Braintree, MA passed on March 25, 2016 after a long period of declining health. For 62 years the beloved husband & soul mate of the late Mary Jeanne Routhier, cherished father of Diane (DiBona) Renaud & Kenneth of Dennisport, Robert Jr. & Michelle of Quincy, Mark of Norwell and Jeffrey & Lynne of Cape Coral, FL as well as his devoted 11 grandchildren & 2 great grandchildren. Survived by brother Norman of VA and preceded in death by his parents Wilfred & Leonie formally of Braintree, MA, his dear brother George and Sister Dorothy
Bob was born in Franklin, NH on August 1, 1925, before relocating with his family to Braintree, MA. Bob attended Braintree High School where he was a member of several league championship basketball teams and after graduation with the Class of 1943 continued playing with the Franciscans. He enlisted and served with the Army Air Corp during World War II and later attended Presbyterian College and Boston University. Meeting the love of his life, and after their marriage, Jeanne & Bob settled in Braintree where they raised their family. Bob retired after a successful career as Senior Manager both in the tire manufacturing and the utility engineering service industries.
In 1986 Jeanne & Bob retired to Yarmouthport Cape Cod where he enjoyed his retirement. He continued a very active life including The Cape Cod Senior Men’s Softball League which he enjoyed and played well into his 80’s. His biggest joys were spending time with wife Jeanne and his adored grandchildren, special times tending to their garden, walking the beach, taking weekly rides, doing crossword puzzles and reading on the back deck. They enjoyed travel especially across the United States, but Cape Cod in the summer was his first love. Bob was a Communicant of St. Pius X Church and member of The Knights of Columbus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth on Thursday March 31st at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will immediate follow at the Woodside Cemetery.
