Osterville, MA - Virginia H. O'Brien (80) of Osterville, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday August 22, 2015. She was born on December 24, 1934 in Cotuit, MA to the late John P. and Lydia (Barboza) Cabral. She married Robert J. O'Brien (Obie), and together they enjoyed a wonderful married life for 57 years, until his death last year.
Ginny, as she was known to most everyone, lived her whole life in Osterville. She graduated from Barnstable High School in 1953. Prior to getting married she worked at a few jobs including McLelland's Department store in Hyannis, and at the Osterville Drug Store.
She was a lifelong communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Osterville, and also sang in the choir and taught CCD classes in her younger years. Over the years she also was a past member of the Centerville/Osterville Lioness Club, enjoyed bowling, socializing with her friends in the Stitch and Bitch Club, crocheting and doing word search puzzles. She and Obie also took vacations to their ancestral homelands of Portugal and Ireland.
Ginny loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a sweet, gentle nature and was loved by everyone. She is survived by her sister Gloria Keander of Osterville; son Dennis O'Brien of Boston and Osterville; Stephen O'Brien and his wife Lauren of Woodbury, TN; daughter Karen Ray of Westborough; son John O'Brien and his wife Gail of Centerville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law Barbara O'Brien of Narragansett, RI; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday August 26th at John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills, MA. A Catholic Mass celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday August 27th at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Avenue, Osterville. Burial will follow at Saint Francis Xavier Cemetery, Pine Street, Centerville.
