CAMERA SYSTEM AND FACEBOOK LEAD TO ARREST

On Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 5:40PM, Yarmouth Police Department Patrol Officer Ryan Murphy met with a woman at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters who reported a housemate had broken into her room at her home in West Yarmouth.

The woman had suspected earlier break-ins and installed a camera system. While watching remotely on her camera, she observed the suspect enter the room and attempt to break into her safe.

Patrol Officer Murphy verified this by watching the surveillance footage which shows the entire crime in progress.

While conducting this investigation, Patrol Officer Christopher Marino met with another victim at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters who reported seeing her stolen painting tools and supplies on Facebook Marketplace for sale by the same suspect.

At approximately 8:30PM, an Arrest Warrant was obtained and Patrol Officers Justin Haire, Eric Journet, Paul Mellett, Marino, and Murphy responded to the residence and found the suspect in a garage working on a moped. The suspect was placed him under arrest and transported to Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters.

While at the residence, Patrol Officer Murphy recognized other items as being stolen as he and Patrol Officer Marino has taken a previous crime report regarding a theft in late May.

The stolen tools and painting supplies advertised on Facebook Marketplace were also observed and recovered.

Yarmouth Police Department Detective Nuss was contacted and it was determined that the moped that the suspect was working on in the garage was also stolen.

Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigator Kaitlin Pettinato responded to the scene and provided crime scene services.

Based on the discovery of the stolen items, the suspect---who is well known to Cape Cod Law Enforcement---is being charged with numerous felony crimes.

The Civilian Bail Commissioner was contacted and bail was set at $2,000.

Suspect held overnight at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters and transported to the Barnstable District Court this morning for arraignment.
