One Dead in Provincetown House Fire

Home on Atkins Mayo Road is a total loss...

Provincetown, MA - A spokesperson from the State Fire Marshal's office has confirmed that one person was killed in a Thursday afternoon fire at 86R Atkins May Road in Provincetown.

Firefighters responded to the call around 3:00 p.m. Thursday.  The Fire Marshal's office was summoned around 4:30 p.m.  

Atkins Mayo road is a dirt road near an old railroad right of way, surrounded by woods. Firefighters had to lay approximately 1,000 feet of hose and use multiple apparatus to get sufficient water to the scene.

Assessor's records indicate the home is owned by John Eder of that address.  The Assessor's field card reports the 945 square foot, 1970 ranch home has an assessed value of $518,000.

The blaze is under investigation by Provincetown Fire Department, Provincetown Police Department along with State Police assigned to both the State Fire Marshal's office and the Cape and Islands District Attorney's office.
